Vice President Financial Reporting

 

Our client, a leading international Mining Group is looking for an experienced and highly qualified Vice President - Financial Reporting person at their corporate office in Libanon near Westonaria.

The appointee should:

  • Be a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA)
  • Have a professional registration with SAICA
  • Have at least 15 years’ experience in a related role, of which 7 should have been at a senior management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) legislation passed by the U.S. Congress to protect shareholders and the general public from accounting errors and fraudulent practices in enterprise, as well as improve the accuracy of corporate disclosures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and insight into the:
  • JSE listings requirements
  • South African Companies Act
  • United States foreign corrupt practices act of 1977
  • United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
  • NYSE Listing Requirements
  • Be able to apply visionary leadership to co-develop and implement strategy
  • Be able to understand different data sets to accurately consolidate financial data for management reporting and provide financial statements within the regulatory standards and  required periods
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Stillwater Occupational Health Centre

Advantageous requirements:

  • MBL or MBA

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overall adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Communication and follow up with the different segments on changes to standards and policies
  • Responsible for the internal control environment over the financial reporting function ;
  • Identification of complex accounting standards/procedures/transactions;
  • Allocation of resources to complex accounting standards/procedures/transactions;
  • Managing the half-year review and year end reporting process, including the external audit process;
  • Managing the financial reporting requirements of any transactional documentation e.g. rights offers, bonds etc.;
  • Ensuring timelines are met from an internal reporting perspective and an external audit perspective;
  • Second level reviewer of both financial reporting and technical accounting streams;
  • Streamlining and improve the financial reporting cycle;
  • Lead the identification of Finance risks and the incorporation of mitigating controls;
  • Accountable for the implementation of internal controls to mitigate business risk in own portfolio of influence.

Strategic Direction & Leadership:

  • Lead and drive the Finance disciplines and teams to achieve organisational reporting objectives and International as well as Group adopted accounting standards;
  • Exercise effective strategic leadership on the Finance reporting disciplines by being able to operationalize the vision and mission of the organization into realistic and challenging operational plans with sound and visible controls;
  • Provide the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the Finance reporting disciplines have the proper operational controls, administrative, procedures, people and systems in place to effectively meet the strategic objectives of the organization and to ensure financial strength;
  • Provide strategic direction for the Finance reporting disciplines to meet short to medium term business requirements;
  • Assist in formulating the Company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives;
  • Operate within the Delegation of Authority as approved by the Board and lead the day to day operational activities of the Finance disciplines
  • Be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team in order to achieve deadlines, financial standards and provide the necessary leadership;
  • Manage the reporting team in achieving the Group adopted accounting standards, reporting periods, financial reporting models, policies and procedures, including share based and dividend payment models;
  • Manage the management accounting team in the consolidation of management accounting information and costs for the Group as per the financial plan
